Funk and Wagnall's New World Encyclopedia

Emily Bruner

1.This is an encyclopedia powered by EBSCO host. It would be used for people from fifth grade on. Some Lower Schoolers might be able to use it with the help of an adult or older student. This database would be used for a brief summary of a major person, place, or event.

2. You can search using the Basic Search (using a key word), and Advanced Search, or a Visual Search (for images.)

3.You can sort your search be relevance, title, or date.

4. The database allows you to print, e-mail, save, or add an article to your folder. You may also view the full HTML text or have the database cite the source for you.

5. The database also shows you how to cite the source.

6. You are able to e-mail any article you may find.

7. You are also able to obtain photographs via the visual search.

8. The database hold information that is current, and does not go far back in dates.

9. You are not able to access information from this month's newspapers or magazines because all of the information in this database comes from encyclopedias (which are produced once a year.)

10. The home page includes Preferences and Help links.

11. The database is overall good, but it is not very visually appealing, does not have many different search techniques, and does not have the option to save searches.

12. The database is pretty easy to use because it is straight forward and because it does not have many search options, is easy to get the results you want from a search.

13. After using this database, I would use it for pretty much any class in which I have to research a topic because it has a variety of information. I think that this is a good database to begin researching with because it provides a short summary of the topic.
